Wooden Door MA28 – Antique Double Leaf Colonial Door with Glazed Barred Transom & Original Blue-Grey Paint

Moody, soulful, and wrapped in the faded blue charm of colonial India — this magnificent antique double-leaf wooden door is a quietly powerful statement of heritage, carrying the timeworn beauty of a bygone era in every crack, peel, and brushstroke of its extraordinary original paint.

Crafted from solid, heavy reclaimed timber and complete with its original full-width transom above — divided into three glazed and iron-barred sections that allow light and air to filter through in the most beautiful way — this door is a superb example of the practical elegance that defined Indian colonial domestic architecture at its finest. The two door leaves are richly structured with six bold raised panels in a classic three-tier arrangement — two smaller panels at the top, two generous mid-height panels, and two deep base panels — creating a beautifully balanced and visually satisfying composition from crown to base.

The original iron pull handle sits firmly at mid-height, and the whole piece is anchored within its original heavy wooden frame with projecting corbel brackets at the top — a charming architectural detail that speaks directly to the craftsmanship of the era in which it was built.

But the soul of this door lives entirely in its paint. The original blue-grey — the colour of monsoon skies, of old Indian courtyard walls, of a colonial bungalow faded beautifully by decades of heat and rain — has weathered, chipped, and peeled to reveal warm bare timber beneath, creating a layered, atmospheric patina of haunting, irreplaceable beauty. This is the kind of colour and texture that interior designers spend years searching for and can never quite manufacture.

Quiet. Blue. Ancient. Absolutely breathtaking.

Our unique doors are often purchased for Props, Retail Display or Film Sets and are very happy indoors or outside all year around. Our furniture has been salvaged from an old building in Gujarat State and saved for future generations!
